Catgut Chromic (CC) Suture is a sterile absorbable monofilament suture composed of purified collagen derived from either the serosal layer of beef (bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines. The CC Suture undergoes a ribbon stage chromicisation and is treated with glycerin. It is treated with chromic salt solutions and offers a longer stitch holds time and larger resistance to absorption compared to Catgut Plain. Where there is an increased level of proteolytic enzymes present, as in the secretions exhibited in the stomach, cervix and vagina, Catgut Sutures are absorbed more rapidly. The CC Suture is packed in tubing fluid and available undyed from sizes: USP6/0 – USP3. CC Sutures fulfils all the requirements of USP and the European Pharmacopoeia for sterile and absorbable sutures.
